This has been a fun birthday week, Wednesday we went out to a local favorite pub in Galway, called The Crane. The place has a house band play, which is basically 3 to 7 people of ages 20 to maybe the 90s at the table playing various irish instruments and drinking. Its not uncommon at this bar to have people come up and join the band or perform a song of their own. We stayed later than usual celebrating my 31st and late in the night we got to see a number of the irish people sing traditional songs. One 90 year old guy came up from the crowd and asked to borrow the fiddle and sang and played it, then once he ended a old sea-fairing looking guy at the bar sang a song, followed by a girl at the bar who sang a tune. What a cool experience, megan has pics & videos of it and i'll be putting those up once i get a copy.
The next day we left for dublin and visited some various museums, and this jail. The Kilmainham Gaol (Jail), looking up from the courtyard where they executed 14 leaders of the resistance to british rule.
Temple bar area, tons of cool looking pubs, we got to enjoy some boxty for the first time in ireland here.
Us at night actually in THE "Temple Bar". Megan took me out to a irish dinner/dance/music night at a local place, we sat with this brit couple who we went out with that night.
On saturday we went to the zoo and to the guinness factory! Its seven stories tall and once you get to the top you get a free pint which you can enjoy to a 360 panoramic glass view of Dublin.
